Ten Reasons Why You Should Buy ON THE EDGE

Today’s Ilona’s release day, and we all know that authors have what we like to call CRAZY-ASS-STRESS on release day. In light of that, I’m going to help Ilona out and guest-blog for her!

Now, I read an early copy of ON THE EDGE and loved it. Redneck paranormal romance? It reminded me a lot of the Sookie Stackhouse series, if Sookie’s relatives and neighbors all chewed tobacco and toted shotguns. And if Bill had possibly been a rich noble from a fantasy kingdom instead of a vampire. Or something.

I think you’ll like it. But just in case you need more convincing:

Top Ten Reasons Why You Should Buy ON THE EDGE (Out today! 9/29)

ilona1) Redneck Zombie Grandpa Cletus. I’m serious.

2) Best line ever: “Go brush your teeth, brush your hair, put on dry clothes, and get the guns.  We’re going to Wal-Mart.”

3) Georgie and Jack. Okay, I don’t really like stories about kids. I think Star Wars Episode One cured me of any affection I might have for precocious tykes in stories (*shakes a fist at Anakin*). But Ilona does it right. Jack and Georgie are seriously so cute that it KILLS you. Georgie especially is like a fluffy kitten who just happen to, you know, do a bit of necromancy.

4) Moon Pies.

MoonPie_logo_trademark5) The book costs $7.99 — this, coincidentally, is cheaper than a movie ticket, a DVD, a tin of chewing tobacco, and will give you hours more enjoyment. (However, the book is NOT cheaper than a box of moon pies. Alas.)

6) Think of all the puns you can make with the title! “Ilona, I just loved your book. It kept me ON THE EDGE of my seat.”   Or: “This book was so EDGY that I never knew what was coming next!” or “Please buy this so we can pull Ilona OFF THE LEDGE”. Okay, so that last one was a stretch, but whatever.

7) Someone is bound to go possum hunting in the sequel. Or wear suspenders. Or a raccoon hat, just like Davy Crockett (Ilona, if you use that, I want credit — Jill). OMG – or both!

8 ) Ilona needs to feed her chilluns. Please, won’t you think of the chilluns?

9) You can win a cool Sony Reader - did you enter the contest?

10) Because it is an awesome book. It’s romantic and funny and innovative and you will love it.

Go! Buy! Read!

I’ve read it. It’s awesome! I also loved the line (paraphrasing here): “You shouldn’t eat her fried chicken. It tastes good, but she puts rat poison in it.” That cracked me up.
Georgie and Jack are great. I’m also a big fan of Mémére.

  2. Meljean says:

I’m the same way about kids in books, but Georgie and Jack made me want to take them home. They are cute without being precious.

I read an early version, but not the final one yet. So I am off to the bookstore today to pick up a copy. I pre-ordered, but it’s not here yet, and that’s DRIVING ME CRAZY.

  3. KMont says:

  18. Addled Alchemist says:

I’m reading right now… Awesome, awesome, awesome!!! Gotta go. I won’t be sleeping until I finish. :)

  19. Dana says:

Barnes and Noble shipped it to me last week, and I read it in one sitting. I loved this book so much. I really like romantic fantasy, but there’s usually not enough romance or too much romance and not enough world building. On the Edge achieved the perfect balance. After I read it, I had the biggest smile on my face. I’m still rereading my favorite parts. :)

I can’t wait until we get William’s book. (And the next Kate book.) :p

  20. Diane Sadler says:

Haven’t bought it yet, I’m On The Edge of making my decision…

I loved the kids and I hate children*. In fact, I’m already yelling at them to get off of my lawn decades before I need to.

    The book rocked. Absolutely rocked.

*okay, maybe not but it wouldn’t have worked if I said I loved all kids.

  24. e_bookpushers says:

I have been talked away from the Edge thanks to the lovely staff at my local bookstore who didn’t have the spine Edge showing but the FRONT COVER! Can’t wait for some uninterrupted time to enjoy reading it.

  27. MAGriffin says:

Came in the mail yesterday. Opened package, ripped book out. Licked cover. Noticed tiny, tiny print – oOo, more story for my buck!

Proceeded to ignore everything else in my life until I finished it. At 3:30 AM.
    Wonderful.
