Welcome to Odd Shots

Come on in.  Grab a drink.  I’ll be your bartender for the evening.  What’s your poison?

The Odd Shots isn’t one of those dark trendy bars, filled with melancholy writers staring broodily into their drinks.  We don’t take ourselves that seriously and this is where we get tipsy and bar talk.  We have no definite topic, which means one day you might get a bit of writing advice and the next you’ll see pictures of action figures making out.  We may make you laugh, we may make you sad, we may ask for some cheese with our whine, but we won’t bore you.

So let me introduce everybody since this is opening day and it happens to be my shift.

Over there with a margarita is the unbelievable Meljean Brook.  She leaps tall buildings in a single bound and writes superhot paranormal romances featuring angels, demons, and vampires and things they kill.  There are rumors of a steampunk, but she won’t let me see it yet.  I’ve been considering spiking her drink and going through her pockets to see if she has a manuscript stashed somewhere.

Next to her is Jill Myles with an amaretto sour.  Jill specializes in paranormal romances with a dash of humor and a lot of hot sex.  Her series features a succubus who is shy and shameless at the same time and who is stuck between a vampire and a nephilim.  I’ll leave the exact mechanics of that to your imagination.   Jill has a thing for taking perfectly normal fairy tales and turning them inside out.  Check out her website at your own risk.

Over there sipping her apple martini is Nalini Singh.  She hails from New Zealand and brings with her the fascinating world of psy and changelings and the sexy and violent adventures of archangels and immortals.  Did you know her characters have telekinetic sex?  One minute you’re reading Caressed by Ice and considering the ethical implications of robbing psychics of their emotions and the next, boom, telekinetic nookie.

The tall blonde with a mojito is Patrice Michelle.  Patrice writes hot nocturnes set in the world of Scions and chronicles the love lives of Kendrian vampires.  Patrice might just have the hottest Nocturne cover ever.  The cover is tame compared to the book.  Seriously.  I have to wrap her stuff in one of those thermal foil lined bags to keep it from scorching the rest of the books on my shelf.

Finally there is me with my sangria.  I write violent urban fantasies featuring a girl and a werelion and dabble in paranormal romances populated with country families and zombie grandpas named Cletus.  At some point we were chatting, and Patrice was a bit late to the conversation.  Jill tried to bring her up to speed by helpfully explaining that I was telling a story about glow in the dark dildos in a window of a sex toy shop.  Patrice just shrugged and said, “That’s nothing.  I’ve seen her drunk.”  That pretty much sums me up right there.

So here we are.  And we’ve got some door prizes for you.

Give away:  a copy of MUST LOVE HELLHOUNDS

After the day I’ve had I can’t tell you what a joy it was to sit down with my T-ball (like a Highball only with tea instead of soda) and prepare to ice some people on Mafia wars, battle some others on Castle age and do a little healthy bloodletting on Reign of Vampires…when what should pop up but a post from my really good friend Nalini. (Okay, okay, I should say my fave writer Nalini cause we don’t really know each other) about this great new place to “hang out” on the interweb. From the very first posting I can tell it’s going to be a fun and interesting place and I’m sure I’ll be back soon. ;-) And did I post just to try and win the book….naw, just feeling gabby! ha. However, it would be super cool ‘iffin’ I was to win. I am without funds and do you know how long the waiting list is at the library??? Tragic! LOL Anyway, best to all you wonderful writer-chicks! Keep up all the good works! =) ~Nikki

  26. LaRanita says:

If notice Meljean’s margarita disappearing suspiciously fast, look closely at a nearby wall and you may see a fly (trying drunkenly to stay) on it.

That may just be me…margarita’s and talented authors are my weakness.

Thanks for letting us be a part of it.
