Darcy, Darcy, Darcy…

What can follow Meljean’s “sure-to-be-a-classic” post? And if you haven’t see it, click here. And make certain you have no liquid substances inDarcy 1 your mouth.

Okay, getting back to the issue of what topic can possibly follow “book pr0n” – I had to

Darcy 7

call in the big guns. Inspired by this AWESOME version of Pride and Prejudice in emoticons, by the photos I posted today from my visit to Pemberley a.k.a. Chatsworth House, and by the fact that Lost in Austen is on right now, I give you a cornucopia of Mr. Darcys.

First we have Colin Firth – he of the wet shirt swimming scene that

launched a thousand fantasies. :D

Darcy 3But he’s not the only one. We also have Elliot Cowan from Lost in

Darcy 5

Austen.

Then we have the gloriously moody Matthew Macfadyen from the 2005 version of Pride and Prejudice.

And the gorgeous Martin Henderson from Bride & Prejudice.

Last but not least, we have…Mr. Koli.

Oh wait, he’s not Darcy. Oops. Sorry for the earworm ;-)

So, who’s your favorite Darcy?

  1. =A says:

Firth. Putting in the BBC version is a sure-fire way to relax and smile when things are not going well.

  2. Glennye says:

Bahaha…Definite earworm. I love Bride and Prejudice! I have the DVD and routinely make my babies watch it. Colorful, dancing, singing…they love it, too, of course.

  3. Aja says:

Haha, awesome! So glad you liked my emoticon-age! :D And I have to put in a word for the Darcyest Mr. Darcy of them all — Sir Laurence Olivier! :D DDD

  4. katiebabs says:

When the latest Darcy walked out of the mist, I was a puddle on the floor.

Now I just need to read P&P!

  5. CourtneyLee says:

I loved the emoticon story! I really need to read Pride and Prejudice. I always feel left out of these conversations. I haven’t even seen a movie version.

    Courtney <— bad girl

  6. Margay says:

Matthew Macfadyen is my absolute favorite Darcy! I mean, look at him!

  7. Una says:

I haven’t heard of Bride and Prejudice. Is this similar to the Pride & Prejudice with Zombies???

However, I have to say, without a doubt, Colin Firth is the BEST Darcy and my favorite version of Pride and Prejudice is A&E’s version. I can put that in anytime and just whisk myself away from the world!

  8. Madhura says:

I am really torn between Colin Firth and Mathew McFayden. I love, love, love the TV series and thought Firth’s Darcy was just right. But, I also loved Mathew’s broody charm in the movie. This is a tough one, might have to re-watch both the versions for the zillionth time :D

But when it comes down to it, I will have to go with Colin. He was just perfect.

  9. ShellBell says:

I have 3 versions of Pride and Prejudice on DVD – just can’t help myself.

    1. 1980 BBC version starring David Rintoul and Elizabeth Garvie as Darcy and Lizzie

    2. 1995 BBC version starring Colin Firth and Jennifer Ehle

    3. 2005 movie version starring Matthew MacFadyen and Keira Knightly

There are different things about each version that I love, so I can’t say one version is definitely my favourite. I love them all equally!

I did have Bride and Prejudice at one time but I lent it to someone and don’t think it was ever returned – loved that version too!

    • Nalini Singh says:

You have more versions than me! That’s it, I will have to stalk you ;-)

    • kt j says:

      I have the same 3!!!
I love all of them too, though I think Keira Knightly is the best Elizabeth, and Colin Firth the best Darcy, each version is sooo good.
I got addicted to all things Jane 4 years ago, and now have two shelves dedicated to books, movies, and my jane austen action figure.
      sigh… now I want to rewatch… again.

  10. Mech says:

I think my favorite Darcy is Matthew McFadyen. I love that moody, charming version. Plus when he smiles, he really lights up.

  11. Diane Sadler says:

I like the wet t shirt version myself, but that’s just me.

  12. I only saw the Matthew Macfadyen P&P version, but I absolutely adored that movie!

  13. My favorite’s the one w/ Keira Knightley & Matthew MacFadyen. I love, love, love the one w/ Colin Firth, but for some reason the other one works for me more.

I think it has to do with the yearning you see in this one. My hand’s down favorite scene is the proposal. The rain, the almost-kiss, the absolute passion between the two of them. And he looks good wet too. lol

  14. Heather Brewer says:

What’s so funny is that I just finished reading the scene in Blaze of Memory where they are watching P&P.

I am so loving this book.

  15. Heather Brewer says:

Me too. I am scared of the ending though because my friend said that it made her cry. I really hope it’s a good cry.

I love Katya, she is such a strong heroine but vulnerable (sp?) enough to soften Dev up.

    • Una says:

I will admit, I cried. First time Nalini got me to cry (I’d love to blame it on pregnancy hormones) but it is SOOOO worth reading! Katya and Dev are a perfect couple, just keep reading, it’s worth it!

  16. Bronte says:

Ahh Martin Henderson, I don’t get to see enough of him. Of the others I have to admit Matthew Macfadyen was my favourite which is funny cause when I heard he’d been cast as Darcy I doubted the wisdom of that decision but he won me over completely

  17. Amanda says:

Ok, each male lead has his moments, but the moment that made Matthew Macfadyen my favorite is the scene where Darcy and Elizabeth touch hands as she is climbing into the carriage. That forbidden skin to skin contact… *sigh* And how he flexes his hand after… Aww!

  18. Stormmoth says:

Mathew McFayden is a HOTTIE. Full stop. That whole sexy, smouldering restraint thing he has going on in P&P….. and the almost kiss scene + the mist/moor scene = puddle of drool on the floor.
In conclusion, Mathew McFayden = Phoawrr!!!!

And Colin Firth, well he is the original sexy mon, isn’t he. God, he was so yummy in P&P.

  19. orannia says:

Hmmm. Decision, decisions :) I think I have a slight leaning towards Matthew MacFadyen’s version of Mr Darcy. Don’t get me wrong, I loved Colin Firth’s Darcy (and that version reminds me of my mother and I watching it together and then realizing Episode 4 [which she hadn't taped] was VERY important :) but Matthew MacFadyen brought a vunerability to Darcy.

And for those who haven’t read P&P – I only read it about 6 years ago…now I just need to read the other books! Hmmm…Sense & Sensibility :)

  20. Mollie says:

I’m about about the 2005 P&P. It’s my fav. I watched it so much I wore out the DVD. I had to buy a new one.

  21. ROWENA says:

I LOVE BOTH OF COLIN AND MATTHEW. BOTH BRING SOMETHING DIFFERENT TO THE STORY. THE MOVIE PRIDE & PREJUDICE HAS LESS CHARACTERS AS IT NEEDED TO CONDENSE THE STORY, SO I’D HAVE TO SAY I LOVE THE FULL BBC VERSION WITH COLIN FOR ALL THE LITTLE ONE LINERS IN IT THAT ARE JUST SO COLOURFUL AND FUNNY.

SENSE & SENSIBILITY IS MY NEXT MOST FAVOURITE MOVIE.

  22. Mary Jo says:

I’ve seen several versions including Oliviers… haven’t seen Bride and Prejudice, but I will…..

but Colin Firth and that whole series made me FEEL all sorts of things..not least of which was a bit of Love/Lust for Mr Firth…yum yum …Its the one I will watch again and again, a definite comfort watch.

  23. MissEntropy says:

YAY!!!! I luved Bride and Prejudice. It was sooo much fun. You should have added the Mr. Darcy from the Pride and Prejudice version where Elizabeth Bennet is an aspiring writer and Darcy is the editor(?).
