New Year Resolutions

I don’t really believe in them, but if I did, these would be mine:

Be less of an Ass.

I am a terrible ass.  I get cranky if I don’t get enough sleep, I get cranky if it’s that time of the month, I get cranky out of nowhere and then I yell for a while and go to the bedroom and fall asleep.  I’d like to do that less.  Seventy five percent of the time, cranky usually equals not enough sleep.  I have no idea why my body works that way. but unless I sleep enough, I turn into a harpy.

Work More.

I’d like to figure out some sort of schedule that gives me more working time.  I can work after five, because the kids are home, and some days, by the time the kids are off to school, the house is clean, and Gordon and I finished the work out, I don’t actually start writing until about 10:30.  Since I get up around six, this seems like a huge waste of time.  No clue how to remedy it.  Gordon already takes the kids to school, and with three dogs and three cats, vacuuming must occur daily, so no shortcuts there.   Whether I like or not, I have to work out and I have to clean house.  But I really would like to do less of that last minute 12 hour day for two weeks before the deadline type of crap, and that means squeezing more work out of the daily schedule.

Lose Weight.

Yeah.  We pretty much all know that one.  Gordon and kids got me Wii Fit.  :)

Have a Tighter Handle on Spending

I’ve come to the conclusion  that no matter how much money I put into the account, I will still end up needing about $300 at the end of the month.  I’d like to fix that somehow.

Move.

Must find some place with a decent school district.

So those are mine.  Do you have any?

Also a quick reminder: Jill’s book is out today.

I completely agree with the being less of an ass. I am a complete grump, mostly due to lack of sleep. Of course the lose weight and budget is on my list. I really want to be more positive. I think my negativity is rubbing off on my older two kids.

  2. MinnChica says:

My biggest New Years Resolution this year is to get a job. I haven’t really thought much above and beyond that… it’s kinda a biggie! :D

  3. Brooke N. says:

I’m not one for resolutions either.
I’m the same way about being cranky if I don’t get enough sleep. It’s not pretty.

I’d probably resolve to be more frugal, exercise more and eat more healthfully, work more on my writing, be a better wife and mom and friend (I suck at friends).
Not hate my day job so much, lol.

    Edit both Novella’s

If I can do all that I will be happy as hell. But me being me I expect myself to do the last four plus a lot of other things. (shakes head) learn to relax and take a break might be another thing I need to learn this year.

Woop woop for Jill’s book being released :D

The spending less and losing weight are a given. I’ve even managed to make progress this last year. Work LESS is going to be one of mine. Between 3-4 jobs and up to 10 hours graduate credit, there’ve been months this last year when the most time I had off was 30 minutes Monday and 1 1/2 hrs Thursday – the rest was drive time. The 2 classes I have to have this comming semester are critical, so I need time to concentrate. Also time to relax and stare at the walls or walk my cat or something – something that doesn’t involve school or work :)

I have a general resolution to “be healthier” – which pretty much touches every area of my life. :׀

  8. Anaquana says:

    My resolutions are:

Be a better friend. I don’t talk to the important people in my life nearly enough.

Exercise more. Sitting at a computer for ten – twelve hours a day is not healthy or conducive to staying fit.

Cultivate a better work ethic and a stricter sense of self-discipline.

Which leads to – finish my second book before spring.

  9. Lyssa says:

Get the weight off, no fancy things under my tree to do it with, so I will walk…walk…walk…every day day day. (I put it all on one bite at a time, I can take it off one step at a time…but I can do it)

Figure out a good schedule to write with.

    write

    finish darn book

    edit darn book

    query letters

    agent?

Yeah, I’d say finding a job would be a pretty big thing.. but it’s not really a new years resolution. It’s more of a DO or DIE type of deal.

I bought myself the Rosetta Stone software. Might as well learn a new language while I’m out of work and twiddling my thumbs. But I actually need to put said disc into computer and make myself spend an hour or two doing it.

Eat out less. This would be a no brainer for most people.. but I don’t cook. And how many sandwiches can one person eat during the week?

Be nicer. Again, in theory, sounds easy enough, but. (This was put to the test during a Christmas shindig.. I don’t like it when people offend my family. It makes me… feisty and rude)

    • B-ster says:

When you do get around to using Rosetta Stone, I’d be curious if you like it. I’ve been thinking about learning a new language recently.

  11. Melissa says:

Actually connect with loved ones when I think about them. I have a tendency to think “Oh, I miss so-and-so” and then fail to actually call or email them.

Also, complete my WIP. Query agent. Get new job. Pay off some bills.

  12. Quilly says:

About 12 years ago I resolved to never again make New Year’s resolutions. that one has pretty much worked for me. I am sticking with it.

That said, I do set goals and benchmarks. I want to be and feel healthier by this time next year. My January goal is to eat deliberately. No more spoon licking and half cup “tastes” while I am cooking.

  13. Patty says:

This coming year, I need to improve my life attitude. With that in mind:

I need to count my blessings everyday; my glass really IS half full and I need to remember that.

I need to show- not just tell- my husband, my kids, and my mom that I love them everyday. Sometimes it’s easier to do this with the dogs; they never complain.

    What goes around comes around.

I’m nearly old enough to be a village elder and I need to live my life with more wisdom in what I say and do.

  14. Diane Sadler says:

I won’t make any resolutions since I always end up breaking them but I will try to lose weight by eating better, smaller portions and less goodies, I hope.

  15. Vickie B says:

I’m working on a daily resolution, not for the year, but on a day to day basis. I have a treadmill, recumbent bike and a Wii Fit Plus….on a daily basis, I am going to make myself do something with one of those, maybe two of those. I will do my best to watch the grump action and follow my new motto, “She who laughs, lasts.”

  16. Chasity says:

I am so with you and the 3rd one!!! we got a Wii as well…. but the sports one…. which is a good work out too!=)

  17. MissEntropy says:

New Year’s resolutions in order of necessity and liklihood of accomplishment:
    1)Finish Thesis!!!!!!!!!!!!!
    2)Lose weight.
    3)Get real job w/ benefits.
    4)Move somewhere with 4 seasons.
5)Actually send in short stories to contests instead of just writing them and leaving them in their file.
6)Train my dogs to follow directions (and not chase squirrels).
