Um, things. Learned. Mostly a little about sensitivity. My son is now 12 and I spend a good bit of time around him and his friends. My husband is in the dreaded 50's.

1. Be kind.
2. Simple acceptance is a great gift that you can give.
3. Be encouraging.
4. Accept the things you cannot change with grace, and keep working on the rest. 5. You don't have to solve everything in one day.
6. Expect the best from people, even if you've been disappointed a lot. Don't give up on them.
7. Life is short. No one can do everything they would like to do, but do what is in your power.

Mine are simple. Put together a puzzle. Be adventurous with hair color. Feed geese. Hunt fossils. Go wading. Make the day count!

What I learned in 2009:

1. That Although she might not always be there on a emotional level, my mom loves me and will let me live home rent free for as long I need too.
2. I cannot CAN NOT live with my mother for the rest of my life even if it is rent free.
3. I like to cook.
4. I use my mild learning disability as a front not to do things I'm scared of failing at. If I can read a 300 page book in 2 days I can learn to fill out medical form and balance a check book.
5. That although I live in one of the best and diverse cities in the world I am extremely sheltered. As in,"What do you mean there isn't a Starbucks within 2 blocks of your house?"

Things I plan to learn in 2010
1. Cross stitch
2. How to balance a check book (if there is time after cross stitch)

I attended a Temple Stay when I was in Korea for several days.
One afternoon, the monks in charge of us took us to the stream, told us we were allowed to talk (we were under a no talking rule) and fed us watermelon. I was washing my shoes when one monk decided to splash me, and that escaladed into a waterfight. Everyone ended up getting soaked, so the monks figured that dropping a few of us into the stream wouldn't hurt. :)
My stay forever changed my perspective on monks. The head monk was also amazingly scarcastic, so it was unfortunate I only understood about a third of everything he said.

Things I have learned this year:
1) There are nice people out there who are willing to help you with medical, even if you don't have insurance and you dont' have to sell you motorcycle to do it.
2) Hicks drive me nuts and it's great to get away where there are none!
3) Dressing in something besides t-shirt and jeans and wearing make-up is not a crime. Ok, being sexy is not a crime.
4) Never give up on your dreams no matter what happens!
5) There are great guys out there! You just have to look hard to find them and never settle for less than the best with them!

I learned very important lessons about myself this year:

1.) To be a girly girl can be quite fun with the right people.

2. I can actually leave the country and not die of homesickness!

3. Bath/UK is beautiful!

4. To skip classes can be good for the soul:-)

Things I have learned 2009:

1) That my brother Erik will always find a way to spoof me (Not only on April 1st).

2) If one of my clients starts to go rough/to threaten me, i`ll call earlier for help. (Not everybody is as good as I want to believe).

3) That I can`t stop to laugh about myself. (Sometimes it would suit me more, if I would be a bit scared).

4) To keep my dreams. (Even if they are not rechable. Not everything has to become true).

5) That I have a weakness for soy sauce.

5 <-- Amen! It's amazing how graduate work is both easier and much, MUCH harder at the same time. Not to mention that having a 'grown-up' life just doesn't leave a lot of room for the kind of focus you need to do school right.
