Housewarming presents

Ilona’s still in the process of moving, so I thought we’d discuss some housewarming presents to give her to welcome her to her brand new home. I thought about bacon flavored vodka but frankly, it doesn’t scream “WELCOME TO YOUR NEW HOME” quite like bacon-flavored envelopes do. So I think this is clearly the way to go.

But if she’s on a diet, we’d have to go with something else.  Something that will tone her muscles as well as provide hours of…entertainment. Maybe…hmm….

So what would you give Ilona for a housewarming present? ;)

I think I would have to put together a “winter kit” for Ilona and family. Complete with long johns, gloves, hats, maybe some ugg boots. Include some new teas to try out, a space heater… Anything to help her out in the colder months. (Since we all know OR is going to be MUCH colder than GA.)

  2. “Something that will tone her muscles as well as provide hours of…entertainment. Maybe…hmm…” As soon as I read that I thought more of getting her and Gordon a basket with a bottle of wine, bubble bath and some massage oil. Ahemmm…I’m sure they could work on their muscles. Just saying… *snicker*

If she’s dieting, you could always try the 98% Fat-Free Turkey Bacon MMM-velopes. Tasty AND nutritious!

a case of daylight spectrum lightbulbs: if the kids have only lived in OK and GA, we don’t know yet if they’ll be prone to seasonal affective disorder
    and to celebrate:
a bottle of wine along with fresh salmon, dungeness crab and abalone

There’s a Korean [or is it Asian?] tradition that you give people laundry detergent as a housewarming gift.
The logic behind that is you’re wishing the people as much happiness as there are bubbles the detergent will make. And god knows that there are too many bubbles to count. :)
Otherwise, a bright floor lamp. It’s depressing to stay inside during winter when the house is dark.

    Truthfully,

Maid service. No seriously. Or people to help unpack. :::nods:::

  7. Jocelyn Z. says:

I wouldn’t get her anything because I read a rant on her website about feeling terrible when she gets unsolicited gifts, and I’d feel bad for making her feel bad. Everyone should send her housewarming gifts to me, instead, because I love unsolicited gifts!

(Way to ruin the party, Jocelyn).

In related news, my Husband got me the shake weight for Valentine’s Day as a joke. I don’t know that it actually works (I can feel muscles working when I use it, but there’s so much fat on my arms I can’t see results), but every time I pick it up he laughs and laughs and then says “that’s the best thing ever.”

Seriously.. *ponders* I hope this works, this time. :|

No, I’m not going to go down that road with commenting on that “shaker”. My mind went somewhere bad, very bad.

I just thought this was funny. :D It doesn’t necessarily need to be an “EX”.. just whomever happens to be pissing you off at the moment. Everyone could use a set of knives.

OMG. Really, how do you choose one for Ilona & Gordon?

I am in the process of unpacking after a move myself. What Ilona really needs is x-ray glasses so she can see what is in each box so she can unpack them in the correct order. However, since I know of no such glasses in RL, I’ll just send her some lovely Market Spice Tea from Pike Street Market.

YES! X-ray glasses would be great. We just moved, too, and we finally found our silverware in one of the boxes in a spare bedroom. Gah!

My favorite gift after moving to Oregon was a book of local trails, complete with advice on which ones kids can handle and which ones take dogs. I’m not a serious hiker, but that one is fun.

Other options would be a winery guide to the Willamette Valley and/or microbrewery guide. Or possibly a guide to coffehouses. In addition to the aforementioned bright-lights, we Oregonians NEED our caffeine.

  11. The idea of bacon flavored vodka leaves me slighted nauseated… O_O

The shake weight looks like it’s trying to attack that poor woman. Give her that. It might inspire weird ideas for future books. *G*

But oooohhhh Dawn mentioned a winery guide-that would be the way to my heart.

I look for the current weather in Portland.
It’s raining and it will keep raining the next days.
Therefore, I would get her some brightly colored spring flowers for her kitchen counter, a food basket ful of little snacks, a warm blanket to snuggle in and a zombie movie to watch while snuggled in the blanket enjoying the snacks. And not to forget a bottle of good wine.
These should help to relax a bit in the middle of moving chaos.

lots and lots of Austrian chocolate and marzipan :D

    1. My Mother…the woman can organize the unpacking of a house in 2 days (trust me…I had her visit when I moved, she is Ms. Organized…yes I am related to Mary Poppins)

    2. A trip to the Day spa for her (massage, nails, hair all under one roof). And some oils so she can transfer the experience to Andrew later.

    3. A basket of muffins, and coffee/tea for mornings. And a few ‘gift cards’ to local eateries (after all until they are unpacked who wants to cook?)
